Origins of the Project
At a Victorian Association of TAFE Libraries (VATL) Management Interest Group meeting in 2004 Chris Satzke from South West TAFE suggested a research project to explore the feasibility of Standards or Guidelines for collections for TAFE Libraries, with particular reference to Online Resources provision.
In the late 1980's and early 90's there were endeavours to articulate Guidelines or Standards for TAFE library collections. For whatever reason - possibly the profound impacts of the Internet Information boom, or possibly a perception that this avenue had a relatively low pay off in terms of individual library resourcing - interest in the standards and guidelines field in Victorian TAFE has declined since.
The VATL Executive group approached Monash University School of Information Management & Systems, and a successful proposal was made to the Monash University Small Grants Fund, which provided funding for a project.
